Laboratory and Genomic Medicine Members Recognized by the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine

At the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) 2026 annual meeting, Catherine Omosule, PhD, Nicholas Borcherding, MD, PhD, Kim Huggler, PhD, and Mark Zaydman, MD, PhD, received honors for their contributions to research, innovation, and the advancement of laboratory medicine.

Catherine Omosule, PhD received the 2026 George Grannis Award for Excellence in Research and Scientific Publication. This award recognizes outstanding scientific and research achievements by students and trainees in laboratory medicine and diagnostics. Omosule’s research focuses on myo-inositol as a novel biomarker for the early detection of kidney disease in high-risk Ghanaian adults. Her work addresses a critical gap in early disease detection and has the potential to inform evidence-based approaches to risk assessment and management in global health settings.

“My commitment to scientific rigor and diagnostic innovation mirrors the mission of the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine’s George Grannis Award for Excellence in Research and Scientific Publication. This recognition is a profound honor, affirming the clinical relevance of my research and motivating my continued pursuit of excellence in laboratory medicine and global health diagnostics,” Omosule said.

Nicholas Borcherding, MD, PhD was also recognized by ADLM for his contributions to laboratory medicine and translational research. Borcherding’s research work spans autoimmune disease, transplant rejection, and malignancies.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from ADLM,” Borcherding said. “It reflects the support of extraordinary mentors and collaborators. It also reflects a belief I’ve held since residency: The tools to decode the immune system have arrived, and the clinical laboratory is where they will make a difference.”

Kim Huggler, PhD clinical chemistry fellow, received second place in the Student Research Award competition, recognizing the strength and scientific significance of her research.

Mark Zaydman, MD, PhD received a Presidential Citation for his efforts on Data Science for the ADLM including the creation of the annual ADLM data science competition.
