Division Chief Receives Award from American Association of Neuropathologists

Robert Schmidt, MD, PhD, Division Chief of Neuropathology recently received the Meritorious Contributions to Neuropathology Award. This award recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in neuropathology and provided service to the American Association of Neuropathologists.

Dr. Schmidt’s achievements are plentiful and include mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, teaching neuropathology to medical students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians in neurology, neurosurgery, radiology, and pathology, and collaborating with numerous laboratories as Director of the Research Electron Microscopy Core Laboratory. He also served as the Director of Neuropathology Fellowship Program, mentoring more than 35 neuropathology fellows, many of whom are now leaders in the field. Dr. Schmidt has also been a staple lecturer at the prestigious annual Armed Forces Institute of Pathology neuropathology course, contributed numerous chapters to leading textbooks on neuropathology, and published extensively in the field in many distinguished journals, in addition to his editorial roles in JNEN and Brain Pathology.
