Research Interests

We use a combination of metagenomics, metabolomics, immune profiling, and together with a concerted culturing initiative to disentangle the rules that govern the assembly and persistence of microbial communities in the mammalian gut and identify members of the gut microbiota that influence nutritional and metabolic health. Our group focuses this approach on studying the microbial contributions to malnutrition in children and identifying candidate microbially-directed therapeutic strategies.
