About Us The Pathogen Discovery Facility in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Washington University Medical School focus on identification of new agents of human disease by applying the most advanced technologies to the problem of discovering new pathogens.   Mission Statement Currently, the etiologies of many human diseases are unknown, but may be infectious. New viruses can enter the human population with devastating effect, and the intentional release of new or engineered agents is a danger. Our mission is to expand the scope and quality of research in biodefense and emerging infectious diseases in the world, with the goal of developing the next generation of diagnostic, vaccines and therapeutics against selected biologic threats.
