Research
| | Our research has focused on the structure and function of collagenous carbohydrate binding proteins known as collectins. We have systematically characterized the structure, function, synthesis, assembly and secretion of Surfactant Protein D (SP-D) - a collectin that plays important roles in the innate pulmonary host defense against a wide variety of important bacterial, fungal, and viral pathogens. In particular, the laboratory has employed site-directed mutagenesis and crystallographic analysis to examine mechanisms of microbial pattern recognition, including interactions with the hemagglutinin of influenza A. |
